30/07/2011 - 10-10 Pilsner - Freedom's Vintage
Freedom Brewery have recently kegged a special variation of their Pilsner lager. 1000 litres of Freedom Pilsner was put into maturation on 15th October 2010 and left to condition at -1deg c for 9 months. It was then transferred into another maturation tank where Saaz hops were added (a process known as dry hopping). After another 4 weeks the liquid was put into kegs. This special beer, named Freedom 10-10 Pilsner (or The Forgotten Pils as it known in the brewery), was kegged without filtration and is now available to the on -trade whilst stocks last.
Orders have already been placed by The Rake (http://www.utobeer.co.uk/aboutus_rake.html) and The White Horse (http://www.whitehorsesw6.com/). Contact the brewery for details – we only have a few kegs left!

28/06/2010 - Freedom Brewery is Award Winning
Freedom Brewery has been award a Silver medal in the International Beer Challenge 2010 for both Freedom Organic Lager and Freedom Pilsner. The organisers of the awards commented 'the purpose of the IBC is to award exceptional beers. Judging this year was tough and although entries were significantly up on 2009, less medals were awarded. For that reason I hope this is a fitting reward for the dedication and commitment to your product.'
Freedom Brewery is delighted to be the highest placed English lager in the competition, and feels that the prestigious silver medals will help to strengthen the UK's position as a lager brewing nation, as well as encourage consumers to sample the great selection of home-brewed lagers available.

25/02/2010 - Freedom 4% reviewed by renowned Beer Author Roger Protz
The Freedom 4% has a fine toasted malt aroma, with sweet malt, spicy hops and light citrus fruit in the mouth, and a dry and hoppy finish. By mainstream lager standards, it's a bitter beer.

16/12/2009 - The Culinary Guide Ultimate Christmas Drinks Hamper
The Freedom Brewery was only founded in the last decade, and shifted its brewing to Staffordshire from London as recently as 2004, yet its lagers have the real whiff of tradition - and hops – to them, while being modern enough to aim for that neglected sector of the drinks market, vegetarians – no isinglass here. This stuff is a million miles away from faceless ‘international’ lagers bought by the crate and forgotten next day except for the hangover.
Their Pilsner Lager is hoppy-flowery with a hint of lemon-zest, and very gluggable – but take care it is 5% ABV; an excellent choice with spicy foods. And their Organic Dark Lager (4.7% ABV) is bonfire toffee in a glass, clean but with a heavy and hoppy body. Something to sip and contemplate.

22/11/2009 - Freedom Lager and CAMRA
You may have read about Freedom Brewery being banned from a CAMRA beer festival recently. Our only issue was that we were invited to attend and had set up our bar beforehand, to then be informed from CAMRA Head Office that we couldn’t participate. Had CAMRA stated from the start that we couldn't participate, we would have happily accepted that. Freedom Brewery and Lager of the British Isles (LOBI) have no issues with CAMRA, and respect their values and principles, but feel that they need to sort out their stance on CAMRA beer festivals.

18/10/2009 - Freedom Brewery Wins Best Sponsorship at SIBA Business Awards
Freedom Brewery won the Best Sponsorship Initiative Award for its involvement in this year’s Freedom Heart Fest 09, held in Barton under Needwood over the 31st July – 2nd August . Freedom Heart Fest 09 raised a total of £11474.25 for The British Heart Foundation and Rainbows Hospice in Loughborough, a specialist respite centre for children.
Over the Freedom Heart Fest weekend, despite the terrible weather conditions, over 2,200 pints of Freedom Lager were drunk! The live bands included Max Raptor (who have supported The Zutons and Billy Tallent), Dave Titley, AV8, Fantastik 2 and The Cloth. The Freedom Heart Fest goers got stuck in to the different activities, which included an It’s A Knockout and Barton’s Got Talent competition.
The judging panel of industry experts praised Freedom Brewery for its winning entry. Pete Brown, beer writer and one of the judges, commented, “Freedom Brewery, and the other local brewers here tonight, are living proof that success can be achieved without a large chequebook. What came through very clearly in all the Awards entries was the creativity and resourcefulness that local brewers are using to develop their business. With talent and determination like this driving our local brewing sector, it’s no wonder that it’s enjoying growth while the overall beer market is in decline.”
The SIBA Brewing Business Awards, now in their fourth year, celebrate the business development skills and entrepreneurial flair of SIBA members. At the Awards presentation, 16 brewers were recognised for their achievements in areas such as customer service, marketing, innovation and, in a category introduced this year, environmental endeavour. The Best Sponsorship Award was sponsored by Croxsons www.croxsons.com For more details, visit www.siba.co.uk/awards/

22/09/2009 - Record Breaking British Beers – Imbibe
Beer guru Nigel Tarn, travels the length and breadth of Britain in search of the countries most inovative, most traditional and most plain bonkers breweries. All together now: 'Dedication's what you nee-eeed...'
MOST UNUSUAL: FREEDOM
Freedom is a microbrewery that specialises in lager and is, in my humble opinion, everything that is exciting about British brewing. Whilst maintaining the traditions of British brewing, it has still given the nod to the trends of the modern British drinker, and is proud to be England's first lager-only microbrewery.
It's a family business run by Ed Mayman, his wife Susan, and at a recent food and drink festival, their six week old daughter! When Ed set up Freedom, the beer boffins told him it wouldn't work - not least because he was brewing in lager in Staffordshire, a hard-water area famed for its ale producers. But now these same boffins are raving about his favoursome lager, which is given added character by the pure, limestone spring water.
There are three beers available: Freedom Organic Lager, Freedom Organic Dark Lager and Freedom Pilsner. Freedom Brewery doesn't use isinglass (a substance obtained from the swim bladders of trpoical fish), in its clarification process, so its bottled and keg lagers are certified by the Vegan Society as suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
My favourite, if I had to opt for one of their beers - and I did recently try and like all three - is the Freedom Organic Lager (4.8%). It has a rounded malt flavour with a subtle bitterness, mad with organic hops and malt, so would work well on any menu.

21/09/2009 - Lager Brewery Battles CAMRA - The Publican (Nick Yates)
Decision to ban Freedom Brewery from festival stokes fire of new campaign to promote British lagers.
A lager brewery has been left furious after the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) banned its products from a beer festival this weekend.
Freedom Brewery had set up its stand ready to pour lager at the Burton-Upon-Trent beer festival following approval from the local CAMRA branch. However, according to Freedom, CAMRA’s head office called on the morning of Thursday, September 17, ordering it to withdraw from the event.

22/12/2008 - Freedom Brewery wins Best Packaging and Best Point of Sale Material in The Society of Independent Brewers Business Brewing Awards 2008
Best Packaging (sponsored by Smurfit Kappa) In an increasingly competitive market, the visual impact of product packaging is of crucial importance. For the judges, the entry from Freedom Brewery ticked all the boxes of imaginative design, contemporary style and creative innovation. The appeal is obvious, and that is what stimulates the temptation to buy and try these products. They co-ordinate well into a colourful 'family', and the label information is very well presented. They will certainly stand out on the retail shelf, delivering a message of flavour and style before they are even picked up. The judges were confident that they are unlikely to stay there long!

Best Point of Sale Material (sponsored by BFBi) In a category that relates closely to the packaging award, the judges felt they had no choice but to decide yet again in favour of Freedom Brewery, who have complemented their product packaging with a range of exceptionally attractive point-of-sale material that adds serious value to the brands.Once again contemporary style is much in evidence, coupled with product information presented in a 'non-heavy' manner. The judges were also pleased to note that a SIBA member that specialises in lagers rather than cask ales can make a distinctive contribution to these Brewing Business Awards in the same way that its products enliven the world of British independent brewing. http://www.siba.co.uk/awards/
